Elegant Roosevelt Hotel Wedding Photos
Travel back in time to the sophisticated 1920s
with Meredith and Jonathan
Meredith and Jonathan’s elegant Great Gatsby-style wedding traveled back in time…and all over New York.
The couple started the day by saying their vows at Jonathan’s childhood church in Astoria. Eventually they would get down on the dance floor with family and friends at the Liberty in Manhattan. But they had one thing to do first — create an elegant set of Roosevelt Hotel wedding photos with me. The resulting images are fantastic…I mean, how could they not be with a couple dressed as well as these two? Check out the photos and get all the details from their wedding in today’s blog post.
Meredith and Jonathan started off their wedding day at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Astoria. This is Jonathan’s family church, and as you can see, the building is beautiful. The church went through a recent renovation and the results are absolutely stunning. After a few family photos at the altar, it was time to head to the site of Jonathan and Meredith’s first kiss…the Roosevelt Hotel.
With a ‘Great Gatsby’ theme to their reception, this classy couple wanted a few sophisticated, Mad Men-esque photos at the hotel to mark the occasion. While I was originally worried that the hotel would toss us out for shooting without a permit, we ended up being able to take photos with the hotel staff not even batting an eye. Indeed, we weren’t the only wedding party on the mezzanine level taking photos!
Next stop for these consummate New Yorkers was a typical slice joint, a.k.a. pizza parlor. Sharing a love of pizza meant sharing a slice at Little Bravo’s on 42nd Street. The bridal party joined us, and they were troopers livin’ la vida high carb for the sake of photos. The shots came out great, and since Jonathan and Meredith wouldn’t be doing the traditional cake cutting ceremony at their reception, eating a piece of pizza together was their own unique twist on tradition.
Finally we landed at the Liberty, a bar and restaurant on 35th Street that Meredith discovered and Jonathan came to love. The party had a hip-hop-meets-1920s-Gatsby theme to it, complete with Jack Daniels wedding favors to celebrate the end of prohibition as well as pearls and suspenders strewn about for decoration. There was no cake, but a tower of doughnuts from the Doughnut Plant. (I can personally vouch for the deliciousness of the Brooklyn blackout doughnut.) And there was plenty of hot dancing to match the heatwave we had on Saturday. Enjoy the pics, and congratulations again to Meredith and Jonathan!
