Madison Square Park Engagement Photos
I could not have asked for better weather for my recent Madison Square Park engagement shoot with with Jingle and Huang last weekend! The park was overflowing with visitors, but these two lovebirds never noticed. We were able to carve out moments of privacy on benches and around the corners of the park so it looks like the couple has the park all to themselves. Enjoy the photos in this week’s blog!
Madison Square Park is a nice little urban oasis at 23rd Street. The park is normally overlooked in favor of Central Park or Prospect Park, but for true New Yorkers like Jingle and Huang, it is a fantastic spot in the city. The most notable nearby landmark is the Flatiron Building. And while both the park and the area in front of the Flatiron Building are usually crawling with people, you can get some great photos here. My recommendation is to visit during the weekend as this park is usually packed during the week with locals looking for a spot to relax in during the work day.
Furthermore, the park is relatively small, so escaping the crowds can be a challenge. I use a very shallow depth of field to blur out any visitors in the background. Finally, if you go ahead and crop in camera you’ll cut out the background noise straight away. Note that most of my photos with Jingle and Huang are close ups, because a wider shot would reveal the crowd in the background.
One final thing to note: Madison Square Park often has interesting sculpture on display in the middle of the park. Check out the park website to find a list of the upcoming exhibitions before you plan your engagement shoot.
