Affordable Wedding Venues in San Antonio
Let’s face it: the economy today is on a bit of a roller coaster. And if you’re planning to get married, then sticking to a strict budget is a top priority. In today’s blog post, I have a list of the most affordable wedding venues in San Antonio along with some tips on how to keep your wedding stylish yet budget savvy. Saying ‘I do’ doesn’t have to cost a fortune, and these wedding venues prove you can still get married in style no matter how much (or how little) you’re willing to spend.
Affordable Wedding Venues in San Antonio – The County Courthouse
The venue where you swap your vows is probably the easiest location to keep within budget. You have the choice of standing in front of a judge down at the county courthouse, or an elopement with an officiant at a location of your choice.
If you’re going to go down to the county courthouse, the process is very simple. In short, you will first need to obtain a marriage license, wait a required 72 hours, then have a ceremony officiated by a legal authority. This can be a judge, justice of the peace, or an officiant of your choice.
I have written a handy article that goes through in detail everything you need to know about how to get a marriage license in San Antonio (read it here). The article also discusses how to contact a justice of the peace to officiate your wedding.
Affordable Wedding Venues in San Antonio – Elopement with an Officiant
Elopement with an officiant doesn’t require much more effort than a justice of the peace in the state of Texas. Best of all, you and your officiant can travel anywhere you like. As with all marriages, you first need to obtain a marriage license. Then you simply need to hire an officiant or get someone to serve as your officiant.
And – of course – I have written step-by-step guide on how to become a wedding officiant in San Antonio (read it here). Basically, your officiant has to be legally ordained, though that is easy to come by with online ministries. Once the ceremony is concluded, the paperwork needs to be signed by the officiant and mailed in to the County Clerk’s office. And just like that…you’re married!
Affordable Wedding Venues in San Antonio – Public Parks
Probably the first inexpensive place that people think of for a wedding is a public park. If you’re a nature lover, you can’t beat this as a choice. The only downside, of course, is the weather. It’s hard to avoid the Texas heat and humidity for most months of the year. Also, few parks in San Antonio offer sufficient cover in case of rain. But if you can score the Landa Park gazebo on a beautiful day in May like Katie and Manuel did, well, their wedding photos say it all.
General Rules and Tips for Weddings in Parks
- Each public park may have its own rules regarding reservations, hours, etc., so make sure to check the website for each individual park.
- Fees vary depending upon the type of facility and when the facility is booked. For instance, a park pavilion costs $15 per hour, Monday through Thursday with a four-hour minimum. However, the same pavilion jumps to $30 per hour with a four-hour minimum Friday through Sunday and on all holidays.
- There is a limit on the number of people that each facility can hold, and any event with a guest count over 75 is considered a ‘special event.’
- You can reserve a space up to a year in advance. Pavilions must be made up to two days in advance, and community center rooms must be reserved at least four days in advance.
- Some parks allow alcohol, some do not. In the city of San Antonio, pavilion and gazebo reservations allow alcohol. Please note that not all parks allow alcohol.
- If your event will be including alcohol, amplified music (DJ or a live band), or a guest count over 75 people, then you must provide security. You must contact the Park Police at 210.207.2166 to make security arrangements.
- Changes may be made to your reservation by contacting the reservations office either in person (5800 Enrique M. Barrera Parkway, SATX), or via email at SAParksReservations@santonio.gov. If you need to change your reservation due to inclement weather, you must do so within three business days.
- Permits cannot be cancelled online, and can only be done in person or via email.
- Full refunds are only issued if the refund is requested 90 days prior. If the refund request is 30 to 90 days prior, then only a 50% refund will be issued. Cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the event will not be refunded.
- Pets are allowed, but must be on a leash at all time.
- For a full set of FAQs about park reservations, please see this link.
I will be writing a more detailed article on a later date about holding a wedding at a park in San Antonio, so stay tuned for a full set of rules (and tips)!
How to Reserve a Park for a Wedding
For any park in the City of San Antonio:
- Visit the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation website to find a listing of all available facilities. On the website you may search by park name or by building/facility name.
- Start your reservation by clicking on the link on the website.
- Note that most of the larger city venues, such as La Villita or Marriage Island, cannot be reserved online and must be reserved over the phone.
- Reservations usually must be made at least five days in advance.
- I will be very honest: the city’s reservation website is absolutely confusing and frankly, technically broken. You have been warned, and I would call any phone numbers provided to follow up with your reservation to make sure it was received.
For parks in Bexar County (including Comanche Park and Hot Wells Park), visit the Bexar County Parks website.
My favorite public parks for wedding venues are:
- Confluence Park: Confluence Park is run by the San Antonio River Foundation. You can book individual sections of the park, and fees vary from $150 to $600 for a half day (sunrise to 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.) to $250 to $700 for an evening reservation (6:00 to 10:00 p.m.), depending upon which pavilion you choose or if you select the classroom. You can rent all the facilities for $3,000.
- Denman State Park: Denman State Park has a mansion on site that can be reserved for weddings. Run by the Family Educators Alliance of South Texas (FEAST), the home is beautiful, and is the former estate of the Denman family. It seems to be under new management, and the estate website is referring to it as ‘The Rosemont.’ In any case, the park website lists the park facilities (meaning NOT the estate) as available on a first come, first serve basis. Note that visitors are not allowed to climb up on the Korean platform seen in all the photos of the park.
- Woodlawn Lake Park: The park has a striking lighthouse in the middle of it, and is perhaps the most recognizable park in all of San Antonio. Facility-wise, Woodlawn Lake has a pavilion, gazebo, and a community center. Pavilions can be rented for a minimum of $60 (Monday through Thursday) and $120 (Friday through Sunday and on holidays).
- Cathedral Rock Park: This is a tiny park that I just happened to find by chance while driving by one day in Leon County. Though the park is relatively small in size, it packs a punch with interesting rock formations and a beautiful dry river bed. There are no facilities here per se, but if you are going for a completely natural spot for your ceremony, then Cathedral Rock Park is a winner in my book.
- Landa Park Gazebo in New Braunfels: I have written an entire blog post detailing everything you need to know to book your wedding in this gorgeous park. Located in the heart of New Braunfels, I think Landa Park is as close to Central Park as we are going to get here in San Antonio. The park has lakes, creeks, lovely views, majestic oak trees, and even a weeping willow or two. Check out the photos from Katie and Manuel’s wedding. Trust me, this park is worth the commute outside the city limits.
Affordable Wedding Venues in San Antonio – The Missions
To get hitched inside any of the churches at the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, you will need to be a practicing Catholic and have the consent of the individual mission church administration. I have gone into the details of how to get married at Mission Espada in this article, and the same rules will apply for any of the other missions.
If you are not a practicing Catholic, unfortunately, you are out of luck. There is no other way to hold a wedding ceremony inside one of the mission churches as non-Catholic ceremonies are not allowed. Furthermore, the National Park Service does not issue permits or allow weddings on the grounds of the four missions. You can, however, take your wedding photos at any of the missions. To find out more about taking photos at the missions – you guessed it! – I have an article about taking engagement photos at Mission San Jose which can give you an idea of the strategy involved with such a shoot.
Affordable Wedding Venues in San Antonio – Unique Spaces
San Antonio has some lovely, and decidedly distinctive, venues that you should absolutely consider for your wedding.
- Japanese Tea Garden: Formerly known as the ‘Sunken Gardens,’ this former quarry is technically part of the San Antonio parks system. But it is, in my book at least, in a world all its own. To book an event here, go to the JTG website. Events by the main pavilion cost $400 per hour ($235 each additional hour), while events at the waterfall cost $300 per hour. The maximum number of guests is 50, and the maximum number of hours is two. No outside alcohol, rose petals, streamers, or glitter is allowed. Rentals do not include chairs, and a security officer must be present (at an additional cost of $60). For any evening events, you must contact the JTG through their online form.
- La Villita: La Villita is a historic village and shopping mall right in the heart of downtown San Antonio. There are actually several locations within La Villita that are available as wedding venues: Cos House, O’Neil Ford Plaza, Plaza Juarez, Plaza Nacional, Arneson River Theatre, and Little Church of La Villita. To make reservations for the Little Church at La Villita, you will need to call them directly at 210.226.3593. For the remaining La Villita venues, note that reservations must be made at least 60 days in advance. There are several rules and regulations, including insurance requirements, which you can find here. To begin your reservation by filling out an online reservation request.
- Arneson River Theatre: As with any La Villita venue, you will need to begin your reservation by filling out an online reservation request. Reservations must be made 60 days in advance. Rental fees are $250 for the first hour, and $50 for each additional hour. There is a $500 damage deposit.
- Marriage Island: Marriage Island is a tiny – and I mean tiny – sliver of land that juts out into the Riverwalk. I have written an extensive article about how to get married on Marriage Island. It is a very simple process, and the cost is $200 for 30 minutes. Click here to begin the reservation process.
- Riverwalk Private Charter: You can’t get more authentically San Antonio than a trip down the Riverwalk. So, why not get married on one of the Riverwalk boats? Go Rio offers private charters lasting one to three hours. Cruises include a boat captain and seat a maximum of up to 37 passengers. The cost is $230 for one hour during peak time and $180 for one hour during non-peak times. Cruises can also be booked to include dining or beverages. To make a reservation, call 210.227.4746 or fill out the Go Rio online form.
- Devils River Distillery: If you want to have a cool, speakeasy vibe at your wedding, then why not set it inside a distillery? Located in the Burns Building near the Alamo in downtown San Antonio, the distillery has four main areas available for any event (the Mezzanine, main floor Tasting Room, basement Speakeasy Lounge, and outdoor covered patio). Cool features include whiskey barrels that serve as cocktail tables, vintage chandeliers, and of course, all the industrial mechanics of the distillery itself. Venue rental includes bar service, tables, and chairs. Packages start at $500 per hour. To book your event here, start by filling out the online form.
- San Antonio Glass House: This venue is just what the name implies: a floor-to-ceiling glasshouse located in far western San Antonio. No matter what the weather, you’ll have plenty of light, that’s for sure. This is definitely a unique space, and it can be dressed up however you wish, and in whatever style you want. Best of all, the venue offers a ‘petite wedding’ special for $1,500. This is a two-hour rental that includes one hour of set up time, an indoor or outdoor ceremony, charcuterie for 20, all the basic décor you would need (tables, chairs, linen, centerpieces, aisle décor), plus set up and clean up. Honestly, this is a great deal.
Affordable Wedding Venues in San Antonio – Airbnb
If you want to turn your wedding into a getaway, then renting a house might be the way to do it. Consider going the Airbnb route and turning the home into a wedding venue. You’ll have a kitchen for cooking all your food, plus bedrooms for any wedding guests. What more could you want?
Affordable Wedding Venues in San Antonio – Restaurants with Private Event Spaces
Weddings usually require feeding a lot of people, so why not combine the two activities in one venue? Note that in general, restaurants will require a minimum number of guests (usually 20) with a maximum of about 70. Be prepared to pay for the number of guests you reserve regardless of if the guests actually make an appearance. Expect the restaurant to only provide the bare essentials when it comes to décor and set up. The restaurant’s main concern is the food; you will need to do all the work when it comes to centerpieces, etc. If you will be bringing any additional props, food, or A/V equipment, then make sure to tell the restaurant ahead of time so that they can properly prepare.
There are way too many restaurants with private event spaces to list for this article, but here’s a quick link from Open Table:
Affordable Wedding Venues in San Antonio – Other Venues
Lastly, this is a list of more traditional wedding venues I came across in my research for this article. Prices listed are as of August 2025 and note that for most (if not all) of these venues, you will need to supply your own caterer.
My one recommendation to venues (and to wedding vendors across the industry) is to please, PLEASE list your prices on your website. Or, at least give a price range to save customers the time and hassle of having to contact you. You aren’t going to lower your cost if I give you a call, so just include your price on your website already (I do).
- The Skyline: If you are looking for a modern, rooftop venue in downtown San Antonio, then you can’t go wrong with the Skyline. As with most venues, their package prices vary by season and day of the week. But if your event happens to fall Monday through Thursday in the summer, then you can rent the Skyline for only $2,000. Rental includes access to the entire building from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (14 hours!), plus tables and chairs and on-site security. There is a large catering kitchen and the Skyline also has economical bar packages available starting at $15 per person. Full package details here.
- The Gardens at West Green: I have personally visited this venue for a photo session with Ay Poppy! Floral & Event Décor (read about it in my article on ‘How to Choose the Perfect Flowers for Your Wedding or Event’). The venue is spectacular, and has everything you need packed into one small space – especially in regards to photography. Located up near the Friedrich Wilderness Park, the Gardens at West Green has prices ranging from $2,850 to $4,450. Their Monday through Thursday package is their best deal for $2,850 and includes up to six hours of venue access for up to 60 guests plus all the furniture you need (tables, chairs, linens, etc.).
- La Dolce Vita Estates: Located just outside of New Braunfels, La Dolce Vita Estates is an event venue that truly does it all. It has onsite accommodation for up to 250 guests, an open-air chapel, an oak grove, and lots of room for your reception. Wedding packages for up to 50 guests start at $3,000 and go up by only $500 for every 50 guests. The package includes 12 hours’ use of the property and all necessary furniture (tables, chairs, linen, etc.).
- Glimmering Oaks: This Hill Country-vibes venue bills itself as ‘where bougie meets country.’ It’s a fantastic venue located just south of the Medina River. While packages normally begin at $5,300, the venue offers a special deal for micro weddings starting at $2,500. You will need to have a guest count of up to 75 people, and book no more than three months in advance. Just looking at the majestic oak trees on the Glimmering Oaks property (tours are encouraged!), I’d say it’s definitely worth the wait.
- The Veranda: Situated in the heart of Castle Hills, the Veranda is an unexpected gem. The venue is actually a historical home turned into a beautiful wedding venue. I have had the pleasure of photographing Daisy and Jordan’s recent wedding here. The Veranda is amazingly affordable, with ceremony costs ranging from $400 (up to 99 guests) to $1,000 (up to 250 guests). Reception fees start at $450 for off-season months, Monday through Thursday. Rental fees include full use of the entire property, and the ceremony fee includes chair rental. Full package details here.
- Scenic Springs by Wedgewood Weddings: Take a trip over to Helotes to take advantage of this terrific deal. Scenic Springs offers a complete package starting at $1,690 plus $57 per person. This includes five hours use of the entire venue; chairs, linen, no-host bar, AND a two-entrée buffet. Yes, food is included.
- Omni La Mansion del Rio: Think you can’t get a good deal at a big hotel? Think again. The Omni offers a sweetheart micro wedding package for two hours in either the courtyard or the roof for $3,000. This includes all chairs, tables, and linen, a sparkling wine toast, and even a wedding cake. You can bling it out with fun enhancements like ‘poptails’ (popsicle cocktails) for $12 each, a ‘Fiesta reception’ for $45 per person, or even ‘Bubbles and Brews’ at $18 per person per hour. Sounds like a blast to me. Full package details here.
- McNay Art Museum: I know, the McNay Art Museum is not what you think of when you think ‘affordable.’ But hear me out. A ceremony on the grounds is only $400. This is limited to a guest count of 50 people for one hour of time, and no chairs are allowed except for those with special needs. For your reception, small packages are indeed available. If you book on a Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday and have a guest count of no more than 70, then you can book the beautiful Blackburn Patio for just $3,000. If you ask me, this is the most beautiful area of the McNay mansion, so this seems like a pretty sweet (suite?) deal.
- La Escondida Celebration Center: Along the banks of the Helotes Creek you will find the La Escondida Celebration Center, a venue perfect for anyone wanting to host a small, outdoor wedding. This eco-friendly venue has a ‘Pop-Up Wedding Package’ starting at $2,000 for 20 guests Sunday through Friday that include an ordained officiant, three-hours’ use of the facilities, your choice of two beverages for guests, and a wedding cake. Full range of package details here.
If you are located in the San Antonio, New Braunfels, Boerne, Austin area and would like to be included in this list and your rental price is $2,500 or less, then get in touch and I will include you in the article. I think it would be great to let people know that affordable options exist outside of a public park.
General Wedding Budget Tips
If you are looking to keep budget lean, then here are some tips to make sure your wedding day doesn’t start to pack on the pounds.
Keep your guest count small.
All of the venues I have listed in this article are predicated on the idea that your wedding is going to have a small guest list. Honestly, anything with a guest count over 20 is going to require a budget of at least $2000. This is including the venue and food costs. If you really want to keep your costs down, then you also have to keep your guest count low.
Start planning (and paying) a year ahead of time.
No one needs to go into debt for their wedding. The key to successful project management is to make a list of priorities and stick to it. For your wedding, conceptualize exactly how you want to spend your wedding budget. Do your research on how much things cost, and make an itemized spreadsheet on how much you will need to spend in total. Then, start squirreling away the funds so that on the day of your wedding, you can walk down the aisle with the peace of mind that you have paid off everything.
Stick to your budget, no matter what.
It is so tempting to go down the Pinterest rabbit hole and see shiny, pretty things that you think you need for your wedding. Those pretty things are expensive and add up fast. Stick to your budget and do not add the little extras, no matter how tempting they may be. Those little extras here and there are what will cause your budget to balloon in the end.
Plan to do everything yourself; but get help.
Just because you are going to put on the show yourself, it doesn’t mean that you should also be doing all the work. Try to delegate as much as you can to friends and family. You two will be a bundle of nerves just knowing you’ll be walking down the aisle.
It will be helpful to have people whom you can rely on to take care of things like moving tables and chairs, taking care of centerpieces, or cooking food. You don’t need to be handling these tasks on the day of the wedding. Ideally, you would just be overseeing these tasks or even just hopping into your wedding attire. I have seen more wedding catastrophes happen because the bride was up until four in the morning putting together DIY craft projects then I care to remember. Don’t let this be you.
Downsize your wedding plans.
With my tale of the overworked bride above in mind, rethink any grand plans you have for your wedding. A small-scale wedding should be just that: small in scale. Keep it simple, and everything will go beautifully. If you have one thing or one project that you want to blow out to the nines, so be it. But try to scale back everything else.

I will be writing more articles about affordable wedding venues in San Antonio later this year. In the meantime, enjoy the images! As always, I’ll have more photo adventures for you next week.
