Melanie & Jalani’s Queens Maternity Photo Shoot
If you are a resident of New York City, then you know it seems to rain (or at least be overcast) all the time in winter. Sadly, it rained all day for Melanie and Jalani’s recent Queens maternity photo shoot thereby preventing any outside shots. But bad weather did not deter this couple! The photos still turned out lovely, as you can see below. Baby Collier is expected to arrive on January 18th, so stay tuned for news from Melanie and Jalani! Enjoy the pics.
Think you can’t have a photo shoot in your tiny, NYC apartment? Well, think again. Melanie and Jalani’s maternity shoot is proof positive that you can have some great photos with only tungsten lighting. These photos are a great sign of the family portrait session to come.
If you have a rainy day coming up for your next maternity portrait and can’t find a sunnier day on your calendar, then here are my recommendations:
- Make use of whatever natural light you can. In Melanie’s case, we started the portrait session by the living room window.
- Light is your friend, whatever the source. Even lamp light can look good if it casts an attractive shadow.
- Show off that nursery! My favorite photos in Melanie’s shoot were of her and Jalani modeling baby clothes and of Jalani comparing his basketball plus toy to Melanie’s stomach. We wouldn’t have gotten that shot outdoors.
I have had the pleasure of photographing Melanie and Jalani several times over the years. Let’s start with photos from their Flushing Meadows Corona Park wedding.
