For most moms-to-be, the maternity portrait session is a tricky affair. How do you take a good photo when you are not feeling the most comfortable? Further, how do you strike a balance between showing off the miraculous state of your body without making your stomach the entire star of the show? I had the pleasure of photographing Alexandra’s maternity portrait today in Manhattan, and wanted to share with you all of the details from the shoot. (Or as I like to call it, what to have ready when the photojournalistic maternity photographer arrives at your door.)
If you are a resident of New York City, then you know it seems to rain (or at least be overcast) all the time in winter. Sadly, it rained all day for Melanie and Jalani’s recent maternity shoot thereby preventing any outside shots. But bad weather did not deter this Queens maternity photographer! I am so pleased when wedding clients come to me for maternity shoots or family portraits. It’s as if the circle is complete, and the grand finale of the couple’s walk down the aisle is revealed. I have one such shoot coming up for a lovely couple whose wedding I shot not that long ago in Queens.
