After eight years together, it finally happened — Nina and Thom got married! They said their ‘I dos’ at the Oratory Church of St. Boniface in Brooklyn, followed by a Farm on Adderley wedding reception that filled the small restaurant with love (and plenty of crazy dancing). I’ve got all the details from their beautiful day in today’s blog post.
The first thing you need to know about this beautiful wedding is that this is one creative family. The bride’s mother, Susan Gonzalez, made Nina’s veil by hand as well as the earrings and bracelets for the bridesmaids. In addition, she also created the two origami centerpieces that decorated the guest card table at the reception. The bride’s brother, Horacio Gonzalez, designed and made all of the wedding stationery — the save the date cards, invitations, and ceremony program included.
Guest favors for the wedding included personalized bags of coffee and ‘passports’ which showcased some of the couple’s favorite NYC restaurants and attractions. This was a very helpful giveaway to guests, many of whom traveled from as far away as Alaska and Spain to attend the wedding.
The couple, who got ready in their Brooklyn apartment, did not see each other until the ‘first look’ in the church courtyard. The groom stayed sequestered on the second floor until it was time to walk to the church. But how do you get the groom out the door without him seeing the bride? The solution was a blindfold, of course.
And in the longtime rivalry between pie and cake, pie won the day with the couple cutting into a piece of chocolate pecan. Congrats to the happy couple, who are now off on their honeymoon in Cambodia!
