A Lotos Club Engagement Party
Congratulations to McKenzie and David who will be getting married next weekend at the University Club! With the countdown to the big day upon us, I thought I might share with you photos from their lovely Lotos Club engagement party. In case you are not familiar with the name, the Lotos Club is a private club located on the Upper East Side. Founded in 1870, the club was begun by a group of young writers, journalists, and critics. The name, ‘Lotos Club,’ comes from the poem, ‘The Lotos Eaters’ by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Illustrious past members of the club include Mark Twain and former president William Howard Taft. But the Lotos Club is most prominent for its annual State Dinners, whose past honorees include Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Andrew Carnegie, Amelia Earhart, Leonard Bernstein and Walter Cronkite.
