A Brooklyn Heights Surprise Proposal
In this week’s blog post, I will be sharing with you photos from a Brooklyn Heights surprise proposal. Meg and Joe’s romantic milestone started off at Brooklyn Bridge Park and ended with some lovely photos among the neighborhood brownstones. So, let’s take a trip to Brooklyn and find out if Meg said ‘Yes!’ (Spoiler alert: of course she did.)
Meet Meg and Joe
Let’s start off by meeting Meg and Joe. These two met online eight years ago. They share a quirky outlook on life and mesh well together. While currently residing in Connecticut, they formerly lived in Brooklyn and have fond memories of the borough.
A Brooklyn Heights Surprise Proposal – Tip #1
Always communicate with your photographer.
The day started off bright and early as Joe had planned a full day of activities for Meg. While the proposal was scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Joe had a breakfast picnic in Brooklyn Bridge Park planned beforehand.
The mission of the day was for Joe to surprise Meg with a proposal at the base of the granite steps in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The park is one of their favorite places in New York City, and they have had many dates here wandering through the park.
On the day of the proposal I, of course, arrived about an hour early to check out the park and get in place to wait the couple. Joe nearly gave me a heart attack, however, when I arrived at the steps 30 minutes ahead of our start time to see him and Meg eating on the steps. So, here is your first tip of the day: always communicate with your photographer. Joe ended up not proposing until the appointed start time of 10:30 a.m., but when I arrived to the steps at 10:00 a.m., I was worried we were going to be starting early.
A Brooklyn Heights Surprise Proposal – Tip #2
Tell your photographer what you will be wearing.
On the upside, I was luckily able to easily recognize Joe from his flamboyant shirt. So, here is tip number two for any of you planning a surprise proposal: Always send your photographer a photo of what you will be wearing on the day of your proposal. This made it very easy for me to recognize Joe. I then simply tried to act nonchalant while I waited for him to drop to one knee.
Despite the abrupt start, the surprise proposal went off without a hitch. After eating, Megan, Joe wandered over to the waterfront railing at the base of the granite steps. Meg is an ardent, online content creator, and often makes small videos for her social media. She set up her camera on a bench, and then Joe took advantage of the moment to videotape his proposal. I swept in with my camera and proceeded to photograph the milestone. It was a lovely moment, and Meg was truly surprised.
A Brooklyn Heights Surprise Proposal – Tip #3
Columbia Heights and Montague Terrace have the best brownstones.
Meg and Joe are fairly private people, so they weren’t interested in the more crowded side of Brooklyn Bridge Park which features Jane’s Carousel. Instead, we took photos along the granite steps, and then proceeded up over the overpass leading to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. We eventually wandered down to Columbia Heights and Montague Terrace. This (tip #3!) is where are you find the magnificent brownstones that make the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood so special. In particular, we chanced upon a brownstone with some magnificent plants on the front steps.
I am a huge fan of the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, and try to always be respectful to not take up too much time on any one staircase. My final tip for you for the neighborhood is to be aware of garbage day. That is the only time that this neighborhood looks ugly.
So, in conclusion, Meg said ‘Yes,’ and these two will be tying the knot sometime soon. I wish them the best and I know they have a wonderful future ahead of them. Enjoy the rest of the images, and I will have more photo adventures for you next week!
