A Chapel Dulcinea Wedding: What to Know Before You Walk Down the Aisle
Chapel Dulcinea is one of the most romantic and popular wedding venues in the Hill Country. With its majestic, castle-like façade overlooking the beautiful valley below, it’s easy to see why. However, most of the venue’s popularity is owed, in part, to its affordability. Whatever brings you to get married at Chapel Dulcinea, there are a few things you need to know before you walk down the aisle. In today’s blog post, I’ll give you all the details, including how much a Chapel Dulcinea wedding costs, how to reserve a place on the venue’s calendar, and the best photo locations.
The History of Chapel Dulcinea
While construction for Chapel Dulcinea only began on January 1, 2005, the building was designed to look much older. The name was inspired by Dulcinea, the love interest of Don Quixote, who was forever fighting windmills in Cervantes’ classic novel of the same name.
Chapel Dulcinea is the heart of the Wizard Academy, a non-traditional, non-profit business school that ‘teaches the science behind every art.’ while the school focuses on marketing, the chapel was created as an expression of the Wizard Academy’s belief in the value of long-term commitment. Thus, Chapel Dulcinea is the Wizard Academy’s gift to the world so that the world can get married without having to spend a lot in the process.
The Cost of a Wedding at Chapel Dulcinea
The Wizard Academy firmly believes that a wedding need not cost a fortune. As such, use of their chapel is free on certain days and at certain times.
‘Free’ weddings Monday thru Thursday
For anyone wishing to get married Monday through Thursday before 7:00 p.m., a $200 reservation fee is charged. This ‘no-show fee’ is collected at the time of booking, but will be refunded to you 2 to 4 weeks after your wedding, provided you have checked in at the front desk and gone forward with your wedding. There are four slots available each Monday through Thursday.
Non-Free weddings
For any weddings scheduled Monday through Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. or on a Friday through Sunday, the cost is a nonrefundable deposit of $500. There is only one evening slot available Monday through Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Weddings on Friday through Sunday are available in five slot increments.
There is one other option called a ‘night flame’ wedding. These weddings are available Monday through Sunday from 8:30 to 10:00 p.m. The nonrefundable deposit cost is $1,000, but also includes a legacy brick and gas lamp sponsorship.
What does the deposit include?
Your reservation grants you 90-minutes’ use of Chapel Dulcinea, the Spence Diamond Pavilion, and the bride’s and groom’s rooms, as well as access to the grounds for photography. Please note that Tuscan Hall, the restaurant next-door to Chapel Dulcinea, is a private business and is technically not available for photos. Also, photography is limited to the grounds immediately surrounding Chapel Dulcinea and areas such as the Wizard Academy dormitories are off-limits.
Chapel Dulcinea Calendar Reservations and Cancellations
When should I schedule my Chapel Dulcinea wedding?
If you take a look at the Chapel Dulcinea calendar, you’ll see that the venue is quite popular. As of this writing, February 2026 looks to be booked solid. Needless to say, if you have a particular day and time slot in mind, I would try to get on their calendar at least six months in advance.
What if I need to cancel my Chapel Dulcinea wedding?
Both free and paid weddings only receive a 50% refund. For both free and paid weddings, a 50% refund is granted if you notify the venue of the cancellation 30 days before the wedding date. The deposit will be forfeited in total if you fail to show up for the wedding or if you notify Chapel Dulcinea of your cancellation within the 30-day window.
Please note that Chapel Dulcinea has a no refund policy due to bad weather. The venue does allow for rescheduling, so check with the venue if inclement weather is expected on your wedding day.
Rules for Events at Chapel Dulcinea
Due to the quick turnaround of weddings at Chapel Dulcinea, the venue is quite strict with a few rules. Here is a full list of the rules:
- Upon arrival, make sure to stop in at the welcome center. You need to make sure and let the staff know that you have arrived for your wedding so that your deposit can be refunded, if you have scheduled a free wedding.
- No food or drinks are permitted in or around the chapel.
- Smoking is only permitted in certain designated areas.
- Candles are permitted in glass containers, but may only be placed in the front of the chapel.
- Sparklers and sky lanterns are strictly prohibited due to fire risk.
- Real flower petals are permitted to be thrown in the chapel, however, it is up to the couple to clean the chapel after the ceremony. There is a $250 fee for any rice, artificial flower petals, or confetti thrown at the venue. Bubbles are encouraged.
- Hilariously, the website notes that there is no vehicle access to the chapel. The venue does have a complementary wheelchair available for anyone unable to walk the 200 yards along the paved trail from the welcome center to the chapel. Please note that the venue will not transport anyone or anything to the chapel by golf cart.
- As a reminder, Chapel Dulcinea is on private property and unruly guests can and will be evicted.
- Pets are allowed at Chapel Dulcinea, and are welcome to be part of any ceremony. Please note you must pick up after your pet.
Getting Ready at Chapel Dulcinea: The Bride’s and Groom’s Rooms
Now that we’ve gotten much of the logistics out of the way, let’s talk about the getting ready suites at Chapel Dulcinea. Each cottage has its own charm and is quite cozy. While both suites are quite sufficient room for getting ready photos, note that they can only accommodate about four people inside at one time. Do not plan to have a large entourage with you if you are going to be getting ready at Chapel Dulcinea. This is a venue where you simply want to put on your dress and check your makeup before heading out the door to your ceremony, rather than getting your makeup done on site.
As you can tell from my photos with Hannah and Austin, the getting ready cottages are tight quarters. That said, I found the spaces to be perfect for photos. Indeed, the large mirror in the bridal suite was the an excellent set up for portraits of Hannah.
The Wedding Ceremony at Chapel Dulcinea
The Chapel
Wedding ceremonies at Chapel Dulcinea are an intimate experience with a beautiful view of the Hill Country. The chapel is completely open, so you will need to be prepared in case of inclement weather or temperature. In the case of Hannah and Austin’s wedding, the temperature on their wedding day dipped to 30 degrees. With gray skies overhead and brisk winds coming in from all sides, they still decided to go ahead with the wedding. I will note that their guests were very cold, especially sitting on the stone pews. That said, it was still a lovely ceremony.
Ringing of the Bell
Ringing the bell is always the highlight of a ceremony at Chapel Dulcinea. It signifies yet another couple has been married.
The bell is located through the door at the front of the chapel. As you can see from these photos of Hannah and Austin, it’s a joyous occasion and a very special moment at Chapel Dulcinea.
Seating
Speaking of pews, let’s talk about seating. There are four stone benches, which can comfortably sit three people. Chairs can be rented for an additional fee directly from the Wizard Academy (through this link). You can, of course bring your own chairs.
In total, the website states that you can fit approximately 30 to 40 people inside the chapel and on the plaza. However, do not plan for more than 60 people. Make no mistake: Chapel Dulcinea is designed as a wedding venue for small weddings. If your wedding guest count is above 50, I would look elsewhere. Both in terms of seating and parking, Chapel Dulcinea simply cannot accommodate a large number of guests.
Receptions at Chapel Dulcinea
I would not call it a ‘reception,’ but you can have a cake cutting celebration at the Spence Diamond Pavilion at Chapel Dulcinea following your ceremony. Note that you absolutely cannot have any food or drink in the chapel itself. Also, you are not allowed to have any food except for wedding cake in the pavilion. And as for alcohol, it must be served only by a licensed TABC server. No hard liquor.
As you might also guess, there are no chair provided in the pavilion. You will need to either stand or rent chairs from the Wizard Academy. Also, you will need to clean up after yourself. If you ask me, I would do what Hannah and Austin did and simply head to a restaurant afterwards for a swanky soiree. Or, you could simply head next door to Tuscan Hall if you have made a reservation to use their space for your reception.
Logistics and Details
Music
Bringing your own tunes is absolutely welcome at Chapel Dulcinea. The chapel has an electrical outlet if you need to plug-in any equipment.
Musicians and live bands are also welcome, but note that any incredibly loud music is not allowed due to the fact that Chapel Dulcinea sits in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Unfortunately, you will need to take the dance party to another venue if you’re looking to shake a tail feather after your ceremony.
Decorating the Chapel
As with everything at Chapel Dulcinea, what you bring in, you must cart out. So, you are free to decorate the chapel as you wish, so long as it does not do any harm or leave any mark on the chapel itself. Lightweight ribbons, flowers, and other decorations are fine so long as no tacks, nails, or staples are used on the walls. Do not use tape that may take any paint off the wall either. As a reminder, there is a $250 fee assessed for any throwing of rice, confetti, or fake flower petals.
Officiants and Vendors
As with most wedding venues, you will need to provide your own officient. All faiths are welcome. There is a list of vendors provided by Chapel Dulcinea, but please note that this is a paid vendor list. In other words, it is not a list of recommended vendors so much as paid advertisers.
Parking
The parking lot at Chapel Dulcinea will allow for only 20 cars. There is an overflow parking lot that is not much larger. In short, parking is a pain here, as is in much of Austin. Plan to carpool.
The Best Photo Locations at Chapel Dulcinea
Chapel Interior
The first place to take photos is, of course, inside the chapel itself. The chapel can be quite dark inside, if light is limited, such as on Hannah and Austin’s wedding day. However, if your wedding is during the day, you should have plenty of light for portraits.
Furthermore, make sure you don’t overlook the side columns of the chapel, which are great for portraits. The left side of the church receives the most sun in the afternoon, while the right side of the church is in total shade. Finally, make sure you get a wide shot of the church by stepping back onto the hillside.
Outside Patio
The outside patio is going to be your best place to take family portraits, in my opinion. In addition, the patio makes a great place for one-on-one shots of the bride and groom. Be it close-up photos or dancing, you have lots of space for any creative options with the beautiful hillside in the background.
Side Garden and Hillside Terrain
Chapel Dulcinea sits on the side of a mountain and is surrounded by trees and typical Texas vegetation. There is a trail leading back into the woods that you can follow for photos. You’ll find several statues, including an Indian warrior on horseback at the end of the trail.
Just behind the main chapel is a cute little garden. While there was not much growing at the time of Hannah and Austin’s wedding, there is a bench and pathway which you can use for photos.
Tuscan Hall
Tuscan Hall is a restaurant and catering space, separate from Chapel Dulcinea. I asked at the front desk if we were allowed to take photos on Tuscan Hall property, and the official word was ‘no.’ But, if the restaurant was not in use, and no one was on property, they did not mind us taking photos there.
It should be noted that your reservation at Chapel Dulcinea does not entitle you to use the Tuscan Hall property for photos. However, as long as you are not disturbing current Tuscan Hall, customers, then simply stepping onto the stairs or into the patio for a few brief moments to take photos is allowed.
Wizard Academy Front Entrance
One other location I would use is the front entrance to the Wizard Academy where you’ll find this beautiful adobe façade with traditional mission bells. You have to angle yourself so that you avoid any views of the parking lot or the actual welcome center to the right, but the façade is lovely, as is the cactus garden.
Bride and Groom Suites
Lastly, don’t forget about the bride and groom suites as photo locations. These two cottages are wonderfully decorated, and thanks to the fact that they are fully enclosed, both suites work great in case of inclement weather.
Meet Hannah and Austin
Hannah and Austin had a beautiful day planned for their wedding, though sadly, the weather did not quite cooperate on their big day. Their wedding turned out to be a very chilly 30-something degrees with drizzle. Still, Hannah remained committed to her sleeveless wedding dress and showed it off in all its glory as she walked down the aisle to her beloved Austin.
So how did these two meet? The old-fashioned way, of course: online. Austin and Hannah have been together since 2021. She is from Louisiana, and he is a true Texan. On their first date at The Domain, they stayed out until 2:00 a.m. chatting.

They’ve pretty much been together ever since. Their proposal was a very romantic day spent at an Airbnb in the Hill Country. Austin rented a place over the Thanksgiving weekend and told Hannah they were going wine tasting. He put on her favorite country song and while they were dancing, asked her to marry him.
The photos you see at the Domain were an homage to their first date. The Domain erects these Christmas lights every year and it’s a spectacular show. Following our portrait session at the Domain, the couple held a small reception at Paul Martin’s restaurant where they were surrounded by family and friends for a nice meal.
Enjoy the images, and I’ll have more photo adventures for you next week!
