A Kew Gardens Family Photographer Goes to Elmhurst Park
My family portrait shoot this past Thursday was all boy with the boundless energy of Wesley, Bradley, and their older cousin on display. This family was a hoot to photograph, and this Kew Gardens family photographer got her workout for the day just trying to keep up. Here are all the details.
So in hindsight, I probably would have skipped straight to the playground with these three little boys as they were not fans of standing still. I loved their energy, and Elmhurst Park was the perfect place to let the kids roam free. Elmhurst Park is actually a new park for me. It’s right down the road from my own neighborhood of Kew Gardens in Queens. The park is fairly small, but it is new (it only opened in 2011), well maintained, full of the latest playground accessories, and clearly a much loved part of the community.
Stephanie was a great portrait planner/mom and had the kids start off the shoot in nicer clothes that weren’t too matchy-matchy. She made sure to pack clothes that the kids could get dirty in, and these came in handy for rolling down the hill. The entire family was included from Stephanie, Ronnie, and their two kids Wesley and Bradley, to Ronnie’s parents, and Ronnie’s brother and son. One thing I always like to include in every family portrait is a shot of mom and dad alone. Why should a family portrait be only about the kids?
I thought this shot went great, but if I had any advice to give, I would say bring a change of glasses if you wear Transitions Lenses. I didn’t want anyone to be blind for the sake of a good photo, so the dark glasses stayed in the picture (and maybe added a cool factor?). Enjoy the pics!
