I Am Moving to San Antonio!

BIG news!  So, after 21 years of calling New York City home, I will be moving to San Antonio, Texas at the start of next year. Yes, you read that correctly.

This decision has been a long time coming.  New York City simply isn’t the same place I moved to in August of 2000.  The city has changed, and in my opinion, not for the better.  While I still love the energy of this town, safety issues and the cost-of-living has made it untenable to craft a future here.

I spent the last week in San Antonio, and absolutely loved it.  Yes, it was just about as hot there as the surface of the sun.  But, there was a breeze blowing almost constantly.  There were things in bloom, and it wasn’t the dry desert landscape I expected.  The city was clean.  It was easy to get anywhere, even behind the wheel of a car.  Apartments in San Antonio come equipped with a dishwasher and a washer/dryer combo — every New Yorker’s dream.  Most importantly, people were nice. I had more genuine conversations in my one week of being in San Antonio than I have in the past three months here in New York City.  It just felt comfortable no matter where I ended up in the city.  In short, it felt like home.

From my Florida upbringing, to my college years in Atlanta, and my two decades of life here in New York, I have always called the East Coast home.  So, moving to the center of the country is an exciting adventure.  I am really looking forward to what the future will bring.

With that news out-of-the-way, what am I going to be doing between now and January? Well, I’m absolutely still open for business here in New York until the 10th of December.  Weddings, events, family portraits – you name it – I will still be here with a camera in my hand.  After December 10th, I will be San Antonio bound.  I hope to see y’all down in Texas.

Accompanying this post are photos from my recent trip to San Antonio.  As you can see from the photos, there are colors, art, and smiles all around town.  I’ll be sharing these photos and more on my travel Instagram starting this week: @KellyWilliamsPhotographer.  In addition, I’ll be writing some upcoming blogs with my thoughts on photography in the city.  Who knows?  I might even convince a few of you to join me down south.
