Emily & Mike’s Lyndhurst Mansion Engagement
Emily and Mike’s Lyndhurst Mansion engagement shoot was a fun adventure, and I have all the photos in today’s blog post. In case you have never made the trip to Tarrytown, New York, the Lyndhurst Mansion is definitely worth a visit. The stately former home is surrounded by 67 acres of beautiful grounds, and we made use of every inch. So let’s get started with all the details.
Meet Emily and Mike
First, let me introduce you to Emily and Mike. These two are adorable together, are an adorable couple, who met in college through mutual friends. After being out one night, They bonded over a late night serving of white pizza smothered in bacon and fried cheese. Thankfully the proposal took place on a much healthier note while hiking at Olivia’s Overlook in the Berkshires. Emily was totally caught off guard on the trail, and they have been together ever since.
A Visit to Lyndhurst Mansion
Emily and Mike live together in Tarrytown, so Lyndhurst Mansion is pretty much in their backyard. In case you have never visited, let me give you a bit of history on the place. The mansion was designed in 1838 and has been the private home of several noteworthy tenants over the years, including former New York City mayor William Paulding, merchant George Merritt, and railroad tycoon Jay Gould. Although no photos are allowed in the home itself (it is rentable as an event venue, however), the vast gardens surrounding the house are amazing. There is a dilapidated greenhouse, a rose garden, and a network of forest trails with stunning views over the Hudson River.
The grounds of Lyndhurst Mansion are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and there is a $5 per vehicle fee. There are restrooms, and dogs are welcome on leashes. If you are thinking about scheduling a shoot during the busy wedding season (May to November), I recommend calling ahead to find out the hours as the park will close early to visitors for any private events.
Let these pics be an inspiration to all couples out there who are looking for a unique engagement shoot location. Road trips are definitely the way to go!
