Ashley & Kareem’s Brooklyn Bridge Park Engagement Photos
Good news for anyone looking to have a photo shoot in the Brooklyn Bridge Park area – construction is almost done! But before I share with you all the details of what is new and improved, let me introduce you to Ashley and Kareem. This beautiful couple’s Brooklyn Bridge Park engagement photos are just a hint of what is to come for their wedding in June of next year. They will be getting married in Cancun, Mexico, so if anyone has any advice for planning an international destination wedding, please pass it along.
Ashley and Kareem wisely heeded my advice to avoid the weekend crowds and scheduled their engagement shoot for this past Monday. And while the tourists were still out in force (due to the great weather, I suppose?), we managed to get great shots starting at the carousel and moving over to Washington Street. The shoot was an hour in length, and we began at 6:30 p.m. to take advantage of ‘golden hour.’ As with all my clients, I put together a Pinterest board to visually map out the shoot beforehand and there were two areas we wanted to concentrate on: the carousel and the train tracks by Washington Street.
The carousel closes at 7:00 p.m., so we started here. Though the glass doors won’t be open until it gets much warmer (probably around June), you can still get some great shots of the carousel in action and use the glass for reflective photos. If you are going to be taking photos on the carousel itself the cost is just $2 per person. Keep in mind that the carousel is closed on Tuesdays.

For those of you who haven’t been to the park in a while, I am happy to report that construction is complete on the brick structure at the corner of Water and New/Old Dock Street. This building is now the St. Ann’s Warehouse theater, but the garden is open for photos. It is a beautiful site, though still very popular, and a definite must for any photo shoot in the area.
Another area that has been under construction for the longest time is Main Street Park (the area just under the Manhattan Bridge). The hill in this area of the park has a huge ‘YO!’ (or ‘OY!,’ depending upon your perspective) sculpture at the top and the grass was crawling with tourists while we were there. Still, the hill has a great view of the Manhattan skyline and the carousel beyond and shouldn’t be missed during any shoot in the area.
