Rupa & Ian’s East Wind Inn Wedding
The weather here in NYC is abysmal, and so I thought I would share the joyously colorful photos from Rupa and Ian’s East Wind Inn wedding. These two chose to have a traditional Indian wedding, complete with a Hindu fire ceremony, in order to celebrate and honor Rupa’s cultural roots. Enjoy the pics!
But first, a few more details about the Indian wedding. The day started with a baraat: a traditional Indian ceremony where the groom meets the bride’s wedding party. In some baraats, the groom arrives in a fancy car or even on an elephant, but Ian dispensed with any fancy mode of transportation and used his own two feet to greet Rupa’s family. The ceremony itself was a full Hindu fire ceremony, and included a ritual where the bride’s family hides a shoe of the groom at the end of the ceremony.
For the reception, the bride changed into a beautiful, white sari. The photo booth was a huge hit with guests, as was the Indian music blasting on the dance floor. This is a family that loves to dance, and the mix of Indian and American house music was hopping.
