Non-Floral Centerpiece Ideas

Stack of books and table number for an article on non-floral centerpiece ideas

In all honesty, just about anything could be defined as a centerpiece for a table. The purpose of a centerpiece is to provide a focus for the table setting and illustrate the event theme in terms of color or style. And while most people opt for floral arrangements, I’ve had clients who are allergic to flowers or simply don’t want to go to the expense. I think you’ll find that after food and the venue, flowers are the most expensive item in any event budget. With that in mind, I have put together a list of some non-floral centerpiece ideas as illustrated by Rokaya and Keith’s fantastic Housing Works Bookstore Café wedding this past weekend.

Chris and Rob’s Housing Works Bookstore Cafe Wedding

Two grooms dancing at a Housing Works Bookstore Cafe wedding

I’ve photographed three nuptials here before, but seriously, Chris and Rob’s Housing Works Bookstore Café wedding was the one that had every guest shedding tears of joy. Real Life 90-Day Fiancé: A Housing Works Wedding

Bride and groom portrait at a Housing Works wedding by NYC wedding photojournalist, Kelly Williams

Have you watched the fantastically-entertaining TLC show, ’90-Day Fiancé’?  Well, I recently shot a wedding that is the real-life story of one such romance.  Meet Joanna and Ruben, who started their tale of romance across the pond in Oxford, UK where they were both attending grad school.  What started with a chance meeting at a wine tasting grew into a true international love story when Ruben returned home to the States.  Joanna eventually moved to NYC to be with Ruben, and with a 90-day deadline before her visa expired, Joanna and Ruben tied the knot.  [You can read all about their tale in the pages of the London Times here.]
