I originally was going to use this blog to show photos from another Forest Hills family portrait, but then I thought, nah, I would rather share some Coney Island street photography from my visit there on Labor Day. Summer may be over, but I’m hanging on to the memories.
Hi all! I recently shot the wedding of two of my favorite people: Courtney and Warren. But before I get ahead of myself, I wanted to show you their engagement portrait photos from earlier in the month. The shoot took place at Coney Island — always a fantastic location for photos of any type. The weather was a bit cold, but Courtney and Warren persevered and the photos are lovely! In addition to the usual shots along the boardwalk, Cyclone, and in front of Nathan’s, we got off the beaten track and went down under the pier for some great photos.
Some tips for shooting at Coney Island: go on an off time. Trying to shoot great photos when you are surrounded by hundreds of beach goers is not an ideal situation. Avoid the weekends and any major holidays. Early morning is a great time to shoot as well. Also, don’t forget about the Aquarium and the Russian neighborhood of Brighton Beach. Enjoy the photos!

I recently shot an engagement shoot on Coney Island for the lovely Sandy and Noah. They are a fun couple, and it shows in their choice of location. As always, April is unpredictable, weather-wise, but we made the most of it and the sun was shining by the end of the afternoon. Coney Island is a great location for portrait shoots of all types, but always keep in mind the crowd factor and schedule your shoot either early or late in the day. Also, plan to get a bit wet and sandy on the beach so plan your outfit accordingly!
These two are big dancers (as you will see in their wedding photos), and Noah is quite the acrobat. Coney Island is the perfect place to show off your moves, on the board walk and beyond. Enjoy the photos.
